
CATHARINE H. MURRAY is an author, poet, teacher and writing guide from Portland, Maine. Her memoir Now You See the Sky (Akashic Books, 2018) topped Portland’s best-seller list for creative non-fiction within a month of its release and was selected as Book of the Month by The Compassionate Friends. Murray inspires audiences with her personal story of loss and transformation and encourages others to find their own avenues of wellness through creativity. Her writing attests to the resilience of the human spirit, and her classes and talks create space for conversations about loss, healing and hope. As a teacher and coach, she focusses on the art of using writing as a tool for healing through journaling, poetry and memoir.
Murray earned her BA from Harvard University and her MFA in creative writing at University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast Writing program where she served as Creative Non-fiction Editor for The Stonecoast Review. Venues for her lectures and workshops have included Maine Medical Center, Harvard University, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Maine State Prison, the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine, and the University of New England. She has been invited to be a fellow at Hewnoaks in Maine, Ucross in Wyoming, Vashon Artists’ Residency and Centrum, in Washington state. Her writing has been published in the Hartskill Review, The Learned Pig, Poets and Writers, and Maine Decor Magazine.
